Four new mini-plots to help reduce our waiting list, which reached double figures during lockdown and continues to grow. We expect those 4 plots to have new tenants very soon. 
I took Tuesday off work to join a few of the HAHA committee to clear the 4-pole plot, neaten the edges and make three grass-seeded paths. The plot has been unloved for several years, partly due to mares tail. We've found that mini-plots get tended more often so should keep it at bay. We have mares tail on Plot3 but it hasn’t caused us any trouble.
On Sunday I planted our garlic in the raised bed, sprinkled with a little 6x. Two Carcassonne Wight bulbs provided 30 cloves - I hope we get to look after them unlike last year's batch. We also harvested our first french beans - yay, delicious! I picked a few gnarly runners to eat the beans tonight - apparently it's pretty much only the British who eat the pods, the rest of the World grows them specifically for the beans.
So back in work for a short week - I don’t stand a chance of knowing what day it is 🙄 but I know that today it’s October. What a crazy year. The song title is courtesy of Of Mice and Men.
What an achievement. I started weeding part of our garden at the w/e. But i have plants dotted in different parts as i was trying to make the most of the land. i also stuck some turnip and beetroot seeds in the ground, not sure if they will grow - but not going to lose anything by trying. Those mini-plots to reduce our waiting list sill be appreciated, but once ppl get a taste they'll be wishing for bigger plots.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks so much nicer than the white covers - though they've done a good job of keeping the weeds down, which makes the plots more appealing to newcomers. We already have 8 mini-plots on site. They have proved good for people very new to gardening or people who know they don't have the time to manage a large plot.
DeleteIf the weather stays reasonable you may well get some mini-roots from your recent sowings - as you say, it's worth a try!
It looks and sounds like you were busy. Your French beans are late, mine finished over a couple of weeks ago. I'm not keen on runner beans and prefer French beans. As for knowing what day is is... xx
ReplyDelete😀 Our Speedy beans were a late sowing so we’re very pleased we got to harvest some - we only have 3 plants so they won’t provide many meals!!
DeleteWish the plots next to us looked as good. We use 6X it's good isn't it? Do you know I never thought of taking the beans out of the gnarly runners?
